Haad Chao Phao Bars and Restaurants

 

Introduction

 

Haad Chao Phao has a great range of places to check out for food, drink and entertainment. There are plenty of spots along the beach as well as lining the main road that runs parallel to the beach.

 

You can get wholesome veggie and vegan food at Taboon and Art Cafe. There is Indian food on offer at Bollywood Indian Restaurant. There is pizza at Mateo Pizza. And there is Belgian and European dishes available at Belgian Beer Bar and La Dolce Vita.

 

The resorts all have restaurants. Plus there are a few local eateries in the area for cheap Thai food.

 

For those with a whistle to wet there are the popular beach bars of Heaven Bar and Belgian Beer Bar. 3 days before and 2 days after the Full Moon Party the hidden away Pirate's Bar gets a lively crowd up for another 'Moon Set Party'.

 

In short there is something for everyone in Haad Chao Phao. There is plenty of choice for eating and drinking. And for those with a vehicle there is Haad Yao just to the north and Srithanu just to the south, both of which have lots of eating and drinking options.

 

Restaurants

 

Taboon

 

Taboon is a cafe that features delicious desserts as well as a selection of healthy vegetarian and vegan dishes. They also serve alcoholic drinks. Despite a change in management the restaurant / cafe seems to be doing well.

 

Jericho Cafe and Tavern

 

Cafe and bar on the main road in Haad Chao. The building looks like a deep south mansion. It serves home made bread, meaty specials, pancakes, panini, tenderloin - the best of American cooking. Jericho, or JCat as it is called, is also a spot to get cold beer or a cocktail.

 

Art Cafe

 

Art Cafe serves up delicious vegan and vegetarian food, It is located back from the beach at the northern end of the main road. Falafel, banana bread and free wifi are just a few of the reasons to check out Art Cafe.

 

La Dolce Vita

 

La Dolce Vita is a cool beachfront restaurant located at Blue Ocean Garden Resort. It serves up Italian as well as Thai cuisine. The Italian dishes are cooked from traditional recipes, and is charactersitic of Italian food, the finest ingredients are at the forefront of the La Dolce Vita experience.

 

Bollywood Indian Restaurant

 

Bollywood is a new restaurant in Haad Chao Phao. It is located at Haad Chao Phao Resort. The restaurant is a basic beachfront affair with bamboo tables and chairs. They serve fresh naan and a wide selection of curries. Prices start at as little as 80 Thai Baht. For those keen for an Indian food fix should check out Bollywood Indian Restaurant. Mateo Pizza

 

Mateo is a small pizza place on the main road. They serve a range of thin crust pizzas as well as pasta. They have freshly baked bread, salads, Spanish omelette etc. Seating is available inside and out. This restaurant is sometimes open to midnight, so excellent for those who like a midnight feed!

 

Bars

 

Belgian Beer Bar

 

This is not a 'beer bar' with over-priced Thai beer and over-zealous waitresses. Rarther this is one of the best foodie bars in Koh Phangan. As well as a big selection of Belgian and European beers, it serves up some gorgeous Belgian food such as mussels and fries. This is a big bar / restaurant at the southern end of the beach walk.

 

Heaven Bar

 

Heaven Bar is a popular beach bar at the front of Sea Garden Resort. The bar is made mostly from locally sourced natural materials and has a 'rustic' charm. They serve cold beer, wine, spirits, cocktails, juices and smoothies. Heaven Bar is a nice place for a few drinks in the evening.

 

Pirate's Bar

 

This is THE bar in Haad Chao Phao. It is hidden away at the southern end of Haad Chao Phao. Visitors have to walk a boardwalk around the headland to another small beach. In the corner sits a bar in the shape of a ship's hull. At the front of the bar is a small stage for chilling out. Next to the bar is a dance floor. Every month 3 days before the Full Moon Party and 2 days after the Full Moon Party they throw their own party, the legendary 'Moon Set Party'. This is an all-night rave with banging sound system and experienced DJs. The music used to be predominately trance but in recent years an influx of DJs to Koh Phangan have brought variety to the Moon Party sound. It's a loud, bucket fuelled evening complete with flouro decorations and plenty of silliness.

 

When there isn't a party on the Pirate's Bar becomes a nice spot for a drink and a chill.
